Surprise!
It has been a crazy last week so my post comes much later than intended but oh well..! At least it is here now!
So as we brought our caravan to the grounds of course we thought it would be wonderful (and educational) to spend our first night - or why not a whole weekend - on the spot, get friendly with our new to-be-temporary-home and find out what are the problems. As M got Friday and Monday off work and the weather forecast was smiling at us, it seemed only logical to go there on Friday, fix the last things and stay as long as possible.
Or so we thought.
On Friday morning we packed the kid, loads of stuff and the cat in our not too big car and were on the way. The weather was beautiful and the spirits were high. M would be finishing our and N's beds inside while I would give my best to plant some tomato plants that were still on the waiting list. As many things needed to be done in town - for example we did not have a mattress for N - getting out of town took quite a while and as we drove to the garden N already woke from his nap.
After trying a potty, changing and some fingerfood I think it was already a few hours later. It is crazy how time flies with these little people! M was building, but it seemed to take much longer than he first thought. When N woke from his second nap we understood that we won't make it and have to come back tomorrow. Even our own bed was unfinished, N's not even started yet. We packed some stuff, but left most of it behind as we'd be returning in the morning.
Saturday morning seemed more hopeful! We packed the kid and the cat, got to the house earlier and N was still sleeping. M finished our bed quite soon and I managed to dig out couch pillows for the mattress and sleeping gear from our endless pile of stuff. After N woke I could not do anything anymore as he is super active and super clingy during the past few weeks so I just gave my best to let M do his thing as he started on N's bed. The weather was beautiful so we could lounge on the grass and play on the pile of pillows. Tomato plants were still not planted though..
As N's bedtime got nearer things got more and more complicated. We moved to the - warm and cosy - caravan where M was trying to build so I had to keep N on the "other end" of it. It appeared that he is a wonderful climber and could easily get on the chairs. Then it appeared from there he could also get on the table and believe me, a 10-month old standing on a 40c40cm caravan table is not my dream sight! In the end I was wresting this kid not to go between M and the unfinished bed frame, there was no water to wash him and I wanted to pee.
We gave up, packed N to fall asleep in the car and drove off.
I might not need to mention that the cat was very far from happy.
It was Sunday and we were back again, this time without the cat who - I am sure - was happy to see us go. I took N and let M have some alone-build-time so magically when the night came N's bed was already getting the last finishing touches and we were good to stay. Well, so and so. The blinds were not attached (it is very very light outside of you are trying to make a baby go asleep) and somehow we had managed to forget to bring some water to the caravan which meant no washing. It took 1,5h to get him to sleep so when I could leave N's bedside it was dark outside, and cold!
M went to the house and made us some sandwiches which we devoured while scrolling phones in our bed as we could not use any lights or sound.
At 6.30 N was up - no blinds, remember? - and we tried desperately to keep on sleeping while trying to keep him from climbing some place to fall and break a neck. It started raining outside and the sound of it on the metal roof was in a away comforting.
Until I felt the first drops dripping on my hand through the window gasket. It was running, faster and faster, big drips coming in periodically.
The sleep was forgotten as we pulled off most of our bed for it not to soak through and put N's washable diapers on the window still to soak in some of the water.
Fast forward an hour we were in our only room inside the house eating a quick breakfast before leaving. It was raining harder than ever and it was cold as hell so no point to stay so we took all of our stuff and went. As M will have to remove the window, let it dry through and then reseal it he will need a full day of certain sunshine we have no idea when we can give this another try, but at least we are much smarter now..we hope!
At least by now we have fixed a bit of something under the tent so sunny and warm days will be more cosy with a place to lounge!

/I wanted to take a more finished picture in the morning, but oh well.. I still have to replace most of the cupboard doors, but actually the bed is made and the chairs have pillows and.. But isn't it pretty even like that?!/

/The tent before./
/The tent now. But I DO need something to heat it at night!/
